Matthew Ahrens' Weblogwhat I have to say
Expert Exchange (chat session) with ZFS engineers Sun is hosting an Expert Exchange on ZFS. Basically this is an interactive chat session where you can ask fellow ZFS engineer Bill Moore and I questions about ZFS. The session will be this Wednesday, September 15 from 10-11am PDT. You can find more information here.

1) Can you mix SCSI and IDE drives? (I'd assume so)
2) How do you feel about competiting with NetApp? They might be the biggest loser from all this. Niagara system + Solaris 10 (ZFS, Zones, NFSv4, new networking stack) should be very competitive.

Yes, you can mix SCSI and IDE disks in a single pool.
NetApp has an excellent filesystem (WAFL) and makes great products. I don't think they'll be the "biggest loser" (though of course we'd like ZFS to eventually occupy as much market share as possible :-).

Thanks for your interest in ZFS! ZFS will support mirroring (raid 1), RAID-5, and dynamic striping (raid 0). We're investigating how best to implement remote replication in a future release.
