Sunbird Project implements calendaring!

Calendaring has been an issue with many companies in the past, but now there's a new project at Mozilla that was started up to implement it. Yes, the Sunbird project looks to be a very promising solution to the very problem, and it compliments the Firefox and Thunderbird products. This is essentially the Mozilla calendar program seperated as both Firefox and Thunderbird were in a similar fashion.

We are hoping to have Solaris x86 and Solaris SPARC builds up on mozilla.org within the next couple days. Please bear with us while we get these packages built.

Alexis,

As far as I know there is no relation to Sunbird and Glow. Glow is a pure Java client that works with either the Sun One Calender Server or ms Exchange with support for WebDAV in the future, AFAIK. Sunbird, OTOH, works with WebDAV only at this time, from the little I've read.

I suppose in the future it might be possible to add Sun One Calendar Server support into Sunbird, but the project is still in it's infancy as far as I can tell.

The only relation I can see is that they're both calendar applications, and Glow is farther along and most likely more mature. Although Sunbird is based on the calendar portion of Mozilla (so it's not completely in it's infancy), it's just seperated from Mozilla now.

I honestly do not know if that is the same calendar component in Evolution or not. Sun did write a plugin for Evolution to allow it to connect to the Sun One Calendar Server I believe, the name Hydrogen comes to mind. Maybe it would be possible to use (and modify if needed) that plugin to allow Sunbird to connect to the Sun One Calendar Server, but I do not know if that would work of is even possible. Well, anything is possible with the right amount of coding I suppose.LOL!

I am a firm believer that competition is healthy for the community, and I have grown very fond of using Firefox and Thunderbird, so I'm looking forward to seeing Sunbird on Solaris x86 and Solaris SPARC. This only give us more options on Solaris!;-)

The screenshots of Sunbird look nice.
