Report on the 3rd OpenSolaris User Group meeting in Santa Clara

No pics as I forgot my camera this month, but we had the best yet meeting, IMO. I didn't get an actual count, but I would say about 60 showed up this time, more than the past couple meetings where about 50 showed up. Good to see interest building in the community and a lot of interest in building OpenSolaris.

Keith Wesolowski and Mike Kupfer put on a great presenation, and there was a great showing from Sun Engineering for the panel Q/A afterwards with a lot of info being tossed around for attendees to soak up.

Of the Sun Solaris Engineers participating on the panel, the ones I can remember are (but not limited to) Tim Marsland, Mike Shapiro, Dan Price, Jan Setje-Eilers, Jonathan Adams, Bart Smaalders, David Powell, Keith Wesolowki, Alan Coopersmith, Mike Kupfer, Wendy Phillips, Rod Evans, Daneck Duvall, Liane Praza, David Comay, Eric Schrock, and I'm certain I'm probably missing some...

We were giving away OpenSolaris hats, a few spare t-shirts that had been left over from the past meeting, and some of the following books by Rich Teer: Rich Teer's Solaris System Programming

According to one attendee, "Wow, you're giving out Rich Teer's book? The only thing that would be better than that would be to give out jobs!".

This was a great evening, and stay tuned for next Month's meeting when Mike Shapiro (newly appointed Distinguished Engineer withing Solaris Engineering;-) will speak on the Fault Management Architecture. We'll also be doing another panel Q/A afterwards since that was so well received this month. Next month's meeting will be held on Tues., July 26th most likely unless we have a scheduling conflict. Stay tuned as I'll post on my blog when I have the date cast in stone. ( Jun 29 2005, 07:44:15 PM PDT ) Permalink Comments [0]
