SPECjAppServer 2004 Sun Submission
Many of us have waited for this for a long time and we know how much energy and expertise has been put into this SPECjAppServer 2004 result (the first one ever for Sun). Ever since Sun decided to redesign its application server (starting with version 7.0), performance has always been close to its competitors but not close enough for marketing to publish benchmark scores (ECperf and the various SPECjAppServer versions).

Looking at the details of the benchmark, it's not the best in terms of performance (although very close), but it's about 1/3rd the price of the leader. This is using Sun Java System Application Server 8.1 Standard Edition using a 1.5.0_02 JVM on Solaris 10 in a V20Z with AMD Opteron processors. This can only get better with the new line of hardware right around the corner.

Remember that Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition is free in production and has full J2EE 1.4 support, plus JSF (JavaServer Faces) and OASIS WS-S support.

I Sang Java with passion
I've known Sang Shin and his great http://www.javapassion.com/ web pages for some time now, but for some reason I never got to mention them on my blog. Bug fixed. Just lots and lots and lots of great Java material.
