Latest GlassFish Podcast episode: Antonio Goncalves It's been a while since the last GlassFish Podcast episode and even longer since the last interview, so here it goes - episode #36 an interview with Antonio Goncalves.
Antonio has many hats and this discussion covers a lot of ground starting with his recently published Java EE 6 book with GlassFish v3. We get into his favorite Java EE 6 feature, his role in the JCP as an individual contributor, his take on Spring vs. Java EE 6 and some thought on JSR 299 (the interview predates the inclusion of JSR 330 into Java EE 6). We also discuss Antonio's role as the leader of the Paris JUG inspiring more than a dozen other JUGs across the country. Enjoy the episode. For the sake of the length of the podcast, I've arbitrarily edited out parts of the session. I hope it does not degrade the value of the content. Feedback welcome. You can listen to a previous interview of Paul in episode 10. Make sure you also look at the 5 short demos Paul created here (bottom of the page). I have about five more episodes coming out in the next few weeks. Getting to know Audacity real well now :) ( janv. 29 2009, 01:29:00 PM CET ) Permalink Comments [1]New GlassFish Podcast episode - Metro update with Harold Carr
On the practical recording and editing details, I tried to remove the noise (we had the choice between planes taking off and the cafeteria being cleaned up). The end result is a bit metallic and still have annoying noises here and there, but it's clearly better than the previous episodes (interviews from Jazoon) which were recorded from a laptop from the first row of a cinema theater. Expect more episodes soon as the upcoming Devoxx conference should be an opportunity to do more interviews. Also feel free to suggest topics you'd like to see covered. New GlassFish Podcast episode, Java EE 6 with Roberto
I posted a new episode of the GlassFish podcast. This time, it's Roberto Chinnici's Java EE 6 presentation from the Jazoon conference back in June. The audio is far from perfect but I decided content mattered more than container...
Wotif.com, a good GlassFish experience (available as audio podcast)
Greg Luck, Wotif.com's Chief Architect has a GlassFish case-study available as the latest GlassFish Podcast episode. A gentleman at the end asks a question about whether this was truly a successful GlassFish experience for Wotif.com given the issues faced before going into production. Having been in sales for the past 7 years and still pretty involved, I think that this certainly qualifies as a good experience but you probably need to listen to the podcast and to Greg's answer to this question. If you haven't heard of Wotif.com, they're the largest hotel booking site in Australia, and growing. ( mars 09 2008, 12:01:05 PM CET ) Permalink
Two more interviews still need editing. JavaPolis should be a great place to do a couple more of those. But interviews aren't everything in podcasts so I'll try starting a series of news episodes with a fellow GlassFish community member. Stay tuned... Linda has a nice set posts on both JMS and the MQ open source product. In the interview, George also goes into topics such as the new SPECjms benchmark. ( nov. 18 2007, 01:55:40 PM CET ) PermalinkUpdate Center interview on the GlassFish Podcast is out
I've previously discussed various aspects of the GlassFish Update Center.
So I pushed out the second episode of the GlassFish Podcast just before the week-end. I think the sound is much better than with episode one (I'll try to find time to improve that one) but there's certainly room for improvement. Any suggestion as how I should enhance the voice and sound quality are welcome. I'm currently using Audacity and finding it a nice tool for podcast editing although it's more geared towards music recording. In particular, I'm finding it hard to set correct volume levels. Part of that is due to the fact I did the interviews with a single microphone which I was holding like an ice cream while some interviewees were speaking quite softly and holding the mike at arm's distance. So one of the first thing I do is split the two voices into separate mono channels. But even then, the Amplify effect does clipping and the minimum increase (0.1 dB) is still too high so I've been setting the Gain for each track. I've managed to jump through the Apple hoops to get it listed on iTunes (not the most reliable or the fastest service I've seen). Now I'm curious as to what other "podcatchers" people are using. Talking recently to a GlassFish user, it seems that the runner up is WinAmp. Anything I should do to make this podcast easier to listen for the non-iTunes people? What do Linux people use? jPodder? So far mp3 downloads are in the hundreds (400 for the first episode actually) with a reported 20 subscribers to the feed via feedburner (day average). ( nov. 05 2007, 12:24:44 AM CET ) Permalink
Episode #001 of GlassFish Podcast is live
I've just pushed out the first entry of the GlassFish Podcast (interview with Vivek Pandey on Metro) It's far from perfect (Vivek's audio level is a bit low, the iTunes store doesn't yet have it listed, can't yet figure out the direct URL for subscribing in iTunes, etc...), but I had to get the ball rolling. You can expect about a dozen episodes over the coming weeks, all interviews of GlassFish leads. Please send comments and suggestions to glassfishpodcast@sun.com.REMOVE.
