New SPARC Systems Deliver Outstanding Performance
Earlier this week Sun announced enhanced versions of the successful SPARC Enterprise server line with the new quad-core SPARC64 VII processor. With this line of servers, which deliver up to 80% more performance and unsurpassed upgrade capabilities, Sun is essentially future proofing customers' data centers that handle mission critical applications and need mainframe class reliability.
With massive scalability, virtualization and RAS features, these improved systems are ideal for commercial mission critical applications which are big business opportunities for Sun. Customers will be able to consolidate applications or handle their most complex and demanding applications.
This line, which includes the Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000, M5000, M8000 and M9000, positions Sun for new customer acquisition and adoption as customers look to open systems for flexibility in a long-term investment. A 40% reduction in power consumption per core doesn't hurt either.
These new servers have already demonstrated top performance on key commercial and technical benchmarks, such as SAP, LINPACK, and JVM--making them ideal platforms for high-availability, mission critical enterprise applications including large scale databases, BIDW, ERP and CRM. They are also the only systems on the market with the ability to mix SPARC64 VI and VII processors in a single domain, enabling customers to increase performance without downtime or required hardware changes.
