The OpenSolaris chat went fine, except for a slight malfunction - the audio streaming conked off due to some unknown reason and the organizers decided to converse in text over the chat channel. It still worked pretty well, and was in fact better than voice since I could atleast (easily) archive the chat and post it here :)
The event happened at the (all new and revamped)
Sun Microsystems Andromeda Theatre, an admirable place for virtual talks and conferences located inside the breath-takingly well designed Sun Microsystems Pavillion building.
The event was also webstreamed so that people who were unfamiliar with SecondLife could still attend the event by just watching a live audio/video stream from inside of SecondLife to the
webpage here. It even had a ustream powered chat box for the website's visitors to use.
The live webstream page..
It was facilitated by the good'ol
Sun SL team. Hats off to these guys - Heidi, Christopher, Fiona, Christy in the Sun SL team and Terri Wischmann from the OpenSolaris team (and to all those others whom I have missed out mentioning!) for organizing such events.
The webstream folks couldn't hear any audio other than the sound of avatar's typing in SL or taking photographs, so I just volunteered to copy-paste the dialog from SL to the webstream and relay questions as well.
After the talk got over and when people were starting to leave, I came to know there were lotsa guys from India there, and was to glad to find out that a couple from JIIT were there as well! :)
Here's the
entire chat transcript.
And here's the photo gallery :)
