Kontact is WCAP enabled

The Kontact PIM client is now WCAP enabled. Here is the announcement (in French).

What is the future of WCAP? Will the Cal Server be open sourced at any point and will that open up WCAP? What about cal_dav support?

WCAP is still alive and well. Support for attachments in Calendar events has been added in the upcoming version (Comms Suite 5). We have started to work on CalDAV but until the CalDAV ecosystem becomes large enough, WCAP will be around. There are still a lot of things (scheduling, freebusy lookups) that WCAP clients (Outlook Connector, Mozilla Lightning + WCAP) can do which have no equivalent. In addition, we don't have a clear idea about how much custom development has been done using WCAP. I'm not in a position to comment on the open source question...

Hello,

I have a question regarding calendar/address book cooperation. Suppose I am organizing a meeting in WCAP calendar. I add attendees (I use LDAP address book) and I want to check their calendars for Free/Busy information. However this doesn't work - seems as if the address book didn't know where to find their calendars. How to fix this?

Must confess, I'm not a Kontact expert. You probably want to direct your questions at the http://sourceforge.net/projects/kresourcewcap/ project.
