ifgrep - new tool for Solaris?

In a discussion last month, the idea to create a new command line program called "ifgrep" came to mind. On the weekend just past, I spent half a day working on some code to make this happen. On Monday, I sent out an email to networking-discuss-AT-opensolaris.org to announce this work.

If you would like to try it out, you can download it from http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/networking/files/ifgrep.c. Please bear in mind the comments in the announcing email if you find problems or would like to see/make changes.

Enjoy!

Great tool, what does it do? (sorry, even the announcement email didn't make enough sense to answer this question)

ifgrep is meant to make it easy to get interface information in a form suitable for use in shell scripts. So rather than do "ifconfig -a | mess of stuff" to get an interface name, you just do "ifgrep" and voila!
