On May 16 2008 the Netherlands Unix Users Group (NLUUG) had its spring 2008 conference. Theme this time was Security, and some 400 people attended the various sessions.
Traditionally, an NLUUG conference comes with an exhibition. The organization kindly invited the NLOSUG to man a booth, giving us the opportunity to (yet again) evangelize OpenSolaris amongst the attendees. Of course we brought a pile of OpenSolaris 2008.05 CDs which we handed out. And, although the conference theme was Security, most questions were about what OpenSolaris is, what functionalities it has etc etc.
I did not man the NLOSUG booth -- I manned the SUN booth which was conveniently located next to the NLOSUG boot. But I overheard some conversations and what I noticed is that people seem to be confused about what OpenSolaris is, the relationship it has with the Solaris 10 product, why there's an opensolaris.org and opensolaris.com website and where they differ... I'll try and clear that up in a separate blog.
For now a big Thank You to the NLUUG organization and to the people manning the NLOSUG booth! We'll keep building the Dutch OpenSolaris community -- watch the NLOSUG website for more activities.
