Business Intelligence

Start Making Sense: Get From Data To Semantic Integration[1], is a very good high level overview of the impact the Semantic Web is about to have on Business Intelligence [2]. To be read by information managers and people in the database worlds.

One very interesting point is that the lack of semantics in traditional data bases, is making it very difficult for most people, other than a few "Go-To" Superusers who understand the data layout inside out, to use the information stored in companies warehouses.

If users can't make credible inferences about the data, they won't leverage its value beyond the initial presentation. That's the true power of the go-to users: They can draw the inferences.

[2] I don't have a lot of experience in that area, so I can't vouch for the correctness of the picture, though it seems very plausible
