Well, I have read couple of articles stating attrition in computer science graduates these days? I think, This is just the begining of what computers can do. There are much opportunities to be explored like digital identity, computer security, real time systems... Consider a good example like Java Platform, penetrating deeper into mobile phones, cars etc... lots of intelligence is given/built into the platform like GC, ergonomics, profiling & monitoring etc and there is lot of room for cool features to be added.

Conclusion: There are many hardcore computer science problems yet to be solved. So, this field is still a lad...

Part of the issue is that there is a growing lack of jobs related to CS in the minds of most folks. When I graduated with a BS in CS in June 2004, only a few of my classmates where able to land jobs in our area, most had to move far out of state and others gave up and either tried for grad school or went for temp jobs.

I know for myself, I wish I could find a job where working on things that involved innovation and exploration of new things was considered good. But finding jobs like that are almost impossible, espically when people won't even look at your resume for most of those jobs unless you somehow came out with a 4.0GPA, something I wish I would have taken more seriously. Hey, my CS classes where awesome, but I wouldn't cut time on CS for other classes and those classes are what caused others to drop... But thats a topic for another day.

If the industry wants to invigerate CS and bring new sharp mines to the feild, then the industry needs to somehow invoke that people will have good careers, not portraying the industry as one who will use you and toss you at a whim, most people will not take that risk if there are other choices.

You are right and also wrong. I can have a big agrument but this is a debate for another day. I was only talking about real world problems to be solved.
