One of my favorite books is Motherless Brooklyn. I bought the book because it had a great title, but it turned out to be a solid read. Nothing spectacular, but like that car that you could always rely on, that trail you love to run, those friends you always feel comfortable with, it sticks with you. As a bonus it has one of the funniest scenes I've ever read. It involves a New Jersey mook asking the protagonist, who has a pretty bad case of Tourette's, to tell him and his buddies a joke. Of course, they all know he can't, but they get a real kick out of watching him struggle to keep from blurting out the punch line.

The book is on my mind because every time I blog about Solaris 10 patching, I worry that the effort to keep from writing "Patches? We don't need no stinkin' patches!" is going to give me my own case of Tourette's.

So I'll get to the point before anything bad can happen:

We've Updated The BigAdmin Patching Center!

As usual it has tabs for:

But thanks to the help of Michael Bean from Sun's Training Group, the Solaris Patches Overview section has been re-organized to include these sections:

  • Introduction to Solaris 10 Patching
  • Five Things You Must Do Before Patching
  • Need a Patch?
  • What's New In Patching
  • Register Your Gear
  • OpenSolaris Image Packaging System

And that's only part of it. Bruce Hill has been quietly adding lots of useful information to the Firmware and System Management sections, and Gerry Haskins, author of the Patch Corner blog, has been keeping us up to date with the latest developments in Solaris 10 Patching. And there's more to come.

Be sure to check it out.
