Yes, another festival in town... It seems Belgium is getting in vogue with young travellers, and one of the reasons apparently is the number of music festivals here in summer. This weekend is for older geezers like me, the famous Jazz Middelheim festival in Antwerpen. Toots Thielemans is playing now and Branford Marsalis is on stage Sunday night.

Every year the village where I live, Boechout, is home to the Sfinks festival, 3 days of world music. This year it also features film and circus acts. Friday night is free for locals and this year it is all about gipsy music. Great food and market too. If you are around, pay us a visit. You might bump into me.

On Monday a friend mailed me that Walter Kochanowicz passed away on Sunday, 4 days before his 60 th birthday. I was shocked by this sad news, I knew Walter was suffering from ill health, but did not expect this. We worked together @ EMC in 2002, where we sold the first Clariions into a large beverage company (guess which one...). He was a very experienced, senior sales guy and I really respected him and enjoyed working together. (Can't say that of a lot of people). We kept in touch over the years, having a lunch together once in a while and looking for ways to work together again ! I will miss him.. He was one of the good guys.
Below some pictures from our victory party back then (me looking much younger without facial hair). My thoughts go out to his family. Memorial service is on Saturday in De Pinte. If you knew him and want to come, email me.

Why the 'bitstream' ? When I was a Fido point in 1986 - yes I started very young - I had to chose a handle. After some thinking I concluded all bits travelled on an electronic version of the Tao, the bitstream, so I still sign all my emails with 'See you on the bitstream', that eternal stream of bits, made up of all the messages, webpages and now pictures and movies we send each other...
I came from NetApp where I spent 4 years in presales, before that Dell (in the Netherlands), EMC, Novell (Benelux and scandinavia) and Compaq. I have worked different roles in presales, usually called systems engineer, after starting as a support engineer at Compaq back in 1991. Before that you do not want to know the number of programming, sales and technician jobs I had...
I was born and raised in Antwerp, Belgium and now live in Boechout, a green village between Antwerpen and Lier, home of the Sfinks world music festival each year. I live with my Golden Retriever Jack. My hobbies include running, tai chi, astronomy.
