More about contributions.

We hit another milestone this week when Mark Johnson sponsored a putback to the ON consolidation from AMD.  AMD engineer Hans Rosenfeld provided code that allows the live loading of microcode updates for AMD CPUs (see #290 on the request-sponsor table).

Expanding the functionality of the operating system is always a good thing, but it's also very exciting to have another large company contributing to OpenSolaris.

Find out more about work related to AMD-based platforms on the team's project page: Enhancements for AMD-based Platforms.

Comments:

Great stuff, with all of the work that Intel has been putting in (or maybe they just tell us more) I was concerned that AMD had dropped the ball on OpenSolaris support. Nice to hear that they are contibuting back, this will keep AMD front and centre for my choice of CPU in future machines if they keep it up.

It would be nice to have support for Powernow!/Cool-n-Quiet even for "older" AMD CPUs. (yes, I am aware of the limitations and problems related to the CPUs not being P-state TSC invariant)

+1 for this request!

one more! it hurts to have a cpu run at full speed when idling, especially for a file server that does that most of the time.
