OOo Chart Development Bjoern's Weblog

There is a respin of the recently announced Chart2 Beta Build.

Due to Issue 69725 OOo started with a crash on Linux with KDE. This issue is fixed in the respin.

For download check the Chart page. The new downloads are available at a separate download location.

Thank you for the good responses so far!

Four eyes see more than two. And four thousand see even more :-)

Comments:

What would be useful to me/us is information about how the data is being saved into the .odt file. In other words, if you create charts in the new build, what happens when they are opened in a regular OOo build? We have a few hundred users on OOo and I would like to put a few beta testers on the chart version. What will happen with documents they share? -Thanks.

We haven't changed the fileformat, so existing documents should show up similar as in OOo 2.0. The rendering is not exactly the same, so you will not have (pixel-) identical views, but the charts should basically look the same as before.

Documents you create with the new chart should also look the same in OOo 2.0 unless you use new features that are not supported by OOo 2.0. In particular scatter charts (XY) that use different x-ranges for different data series cannot be displayed by OOo 2.0 correctly.

Nice to hear that you want to do a beta-test with a couple of people. That helps a lot.
