IBM attacking Oracle

Friday May 25, 2007

IBM is now directly targeting Oracle, see the IBM Redbook "Oracle to DB2 Conversion Guide - Converting to DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows" http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/Redbooks.nsf/RedpieceAbstracts/sg247048.html?Open

Attacking? Isn't that a bit strong? I know Larry Ellison has some sort of fighter jet, but I don't imagine him loading it up with cruise missiles any time soon.

This is hardly news; IBM has been publishing RedBooks about moving off of Oracle for over a decade. Take a look: RedBooks about Oracle AND DB2

This shows inadequate understanding of how Redbooks are commisioned and where they are written. Redbooks are an IBM organisation, a brand, albeit one owned and published by IBM. This book was commissioned by at written at the Redbook center in Silicon Valley as you can see by reading the intro, one of the two DB2 development labs and thus has more than a passing interest in Oracle to DB2 migrations.
