Friday Oct 24, 2008

Sun announces SPECompM2001 results on the Sun Blade T6340 server module. The latest addition to the UltraSPARC T2 Plus processor family of systems, the Sun Blade T6340 Server Module, showed slightly better performance using the latest software stack when compared to the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5240 servers as shown by SPECompM2001.

The Sun Blade T6340 server module equipped with two UltraSPARC T2 Plus processors at 1.4GHz delivered a record 2-chip result of 25952 on SPECompM2001.

The Sun Blade T6340 server module equipped with two UltraSPARC T2 Plus processors at 1.4GHz delivered a record 2-chip result of 21829 on SPECompMbase2001.

The Sun Blade T6340 server module with two UltraSPARC T2 Plus processors at 1.4GHz beat the IBM BladeCenter JS22 system with 4.0GHz POWER6 dual-core processors by 32% on SPECompM2001.

The Sun Blade T6340 server module beat the best AMD Opteron result (Asus KFSN4-DRE, 2360 QC 2.5GHz) by 33% on SPECompM2001.

The Sun Blade T6340 server module with two UltraSPARC T2 Plus processors at 1.4GHz beat the best IBM POWER6 4.2GHz dual-core result on the IBM p 520 system by 27% on SPECompM2001.

The results on the Sun Blade T6340 server module used a more recent software stack, which contributed to the improved performance when compared to the published Sun SPARC Enterprise T5240 server.

Benchmark Description

The SPEC OMPM2001 Benchmark Suite was released in June 2001 and tests HPC performance using OpenMP for parallelism.

  • 11 programs (3 in C and 8 in Fortran) parallelized using OpenMP API
Goals of suite:
  • Targeted to mid-range (4-32 processor) parallel systems
  • Run rules, tools and reporting similar to SPEC CPU2000
  • Programs representative of HPC and Scientific Applications
