Sun's summary of measured watts & watt/performance

Friday May 16, 2008

Sun has shown watts on UltraSPARC for years!:
2008: UltraSPARC T2+
2007: UltraSPARC T2
2005: UltraSPARC T1 & T2000 blogs with power-performance

Sun is now showing measured watts with measured performance for X64 servers as well, the rumor mill inside Sun is saying we are going see a lot more soon:
2008: X64 Virtualization
2008: X64 Java

Real measured watts on a variety of workloads is critical to truly inform customers.

OK,

I checked out the link for 2008 T2+, and went to the SAP SD 2-Teir benchmark information. I don't see the watts information - maybe my eyes are starting to fail me, but please point me in right direction, I'd like to see them.

Also, who came up with "users per rack unit" - I must confess I haven't seen this before.

Thanks,

Ted

SAP does not allow vendors to post metrics such as $/perf or watt/perf along with there performance results. Silly, I know. Those are their rules.

If you are a Sun customer maybe you can get them under confidential agreement, but I'm not sure. Contact your sales person to check.

Space is a huge concern for many customers who are running out of datacenter space and find that Sun systems that are half or the quarter of the space of our competitors (with Sun at the same and higher performance) to be a key factor.
