I wonder if there is a software client for the Sun Ray Server ? I'd like to evaluate the Sun Ray system for our small shop. Not having to get a hardware client just to evaluate the thing would be a plus.

Furthermore, I'd also like to access my Sun Ray session when travelling. I know the Tadpole Comet product line, but this isn't an option for me. Usually the best mobile internet connection I can expect to get is a slow GPRS link; UMTS or WLAN are often not available. So I need to be able to work offline with a full-featured notebook (running Windows, MacOS X, Solaris or whatever) and access my Sun Ray session if the location allows me to. A software client for the common desktop operating systems would be very useful.

Sorry, but no software client is available today. Software clients can have value, but they also can have issues. Much of the value of a Sun Ray is security. It won't accept firmware which isn't signed with Sun's key. It won't store or run applications which can introduce viruses. How do you get this same security with a software client, running on a laptop? How do you even know your software client hasn't been replaced by a trojan? We are looking into these issues, but no product is planned at this time.
