I'm Feeling Manipulated : General

"Right to life" is not a subject I ever expected to broach in my Sun blog. And I won't in this entry either.

Regardless of your feelings on the matter if you have been following the recent media coverage of the Schivao case it's impossible to not feel a little conflicted or at least feel like you are not getting the whole story. The gamut of people and organizations shamelessly using this tragic situation for their own purposes has been disgusting. I've also heard so many conflicting representations of the situation and the motivations of those involved that I'm now convinced that as an extreme outsider, ie. a member of the general public, I'll never really know what's really going on.

I'm now discarding everything I hear regarding the Schivao case as untrustworthy and suspect. This means that the media and public leaders who have engaged on this issue have failed me. Or have they? It depends what their goal was. The non-stop coverage and speeches seem to serve only to muddy and obscure the issue rather than provide even a hint of clarity and insight. I had very much the same feeling regarding the original Iraq invasion. It seems like the whole process is designed not to inform the undecided, but to turn them into the disaffected. I hope I'm just being cynical, but at least it's not my fault.

Welcome to the NWO. :-( The goal of the warring groups in any issue like this is to so polarize the subject as to render the original (real) issues completely forgotten and irrelevant. I, sadly, see this all the time. Rational debate cannot be allowed to continue and contribute to any dialog, it seems.

God(dess) forbid people be allowed to think.

Ack. i HATE this stupid XML input system

Lets try that again...

And ist not just the Schiavo case. If you have trusted the media and the messages it brings to you up til now then I'd say your just waking up.

Welcome to life in 21st C. america. The news media is worse then useless. It consists of manipulative meaningless sound-bytes from peoplr with agendae picked over by OTHER people with their own agendae.

The consensus seems to be that americans don't have the brains or attention spans for getting real information and making n their own decisions.

And in that the media may be right. I saw america cleaer my year in Italy reading Italian newspapers reporting on America then I have before I left the country or since coming back.

About the only newspaper left in the country is the Wallstreet Journal, which MOST of the time manages to still understand the difference between ewns and editorial.

As for broadcast news, about the only real broadcast news I've found is BBC news. (And even there you have to watch their slant, particualrly in middle-east stories.)

My suggestion: go find an article written by Michael Crichton called "Mediasaurus".
