Sun Unveils Simulated Wal-Mart Distribution Center

Sept. 28, 2004 - At the EPCglobal Conference in Baltimore, Sun unveiled a retail RFID compliance test facility that will simulate a Wal-Mart distribution center. Sun also announced the creation of the Sun RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) offering for iForce Partners, the industry's first program established specifically to foster the development of networked RFID solutions. EPCglobal is leading development of industry-driven standards for the Electronic Product Code to support the use of RFID.
This is cool. Anything to get my shopping done faster!

I responded to this immediately. WOW! Wish I thought of writing the book.

So now I'm off on this 'What if...' trip:

    'A Day without Music',...is a sad day!

    'A Day without Orange Juice'...is like a Day without SunShine,

    'A Day without Politics',...Actually, I'll stay away from politics.

So how about 'A Day Without Sun Microsystems'.

The Equivalent of Subway's Jared?
You heard about the guy who ate at McDonald's every day for 30 days?
He has made a documentary called "Super Size Me".
So I thought, maybe I'll blog a healthy McDonald's diet ( is it possible? ). I could become the McDonald's equivalent of Subway's Jared.
Then somebody told me that story is taken. So I googled it. and Damn, here's the story Downsized at McDonald's in the Washington Times.
The good news: I'm not going on a diet.
The bad news: I'm not going on a diet.

political impersonator-an oxymoron?

Also titled "The Trash guy's DNC opinions"

I am not political. but I thought this was a very funny way to start a Monday.

Last Friday was trash day and when we got home, the trash can was gone. It's one of these big trash cans on wheels. The trash truck can pick it up without having the poor trash guy break his back. We had 3.5 inches of rain in a hour (something like that) so we had visions of the trash can being swept down the street by rushing water. We went looking but didn't find. Then my husband mentioned the can was a bit busted. Then we had a good time on the Big Dry Creek trail surveying the effects of a lot of water dumped into the creek. Big Dry Creek certainly was NOT.

Anyway, this morning - a huge truck delivers a new trash can. So I went outside to say hi, I'm glad our trash can is back cause I have some really stinky cantalope to get rid of. Also, I'm glad to see you because now I don't have to call your company.

The trash guy turns out to be a political impersonator ( is that an oxymoron? )

I'm talking 'stand up comedian' quality. I laughed out loud - loudly.

He did a dead on Bill Clinton impersonation. Sorry I just realized I can't tell you the funny things he said cause my Dad always told us (and I often quote this) "Never talk politics, gender or religion unless you want to get into an argument.".

I was trying to listen to the news and kept missing little snippets about the DNC. I am mostly interested because I am from the Boston area. Trash guy gave me the details on these 2 items.

Kerry did the Fenway Park thing - I thought - 'that was brave of him'.

Teresa Heinz Kerry said what?

It was interesting to get my news from the trash guy (said with the highest respect) instead of google.

I find this funny.
I did these 2 blogs with a pink theme.
First, my pink iPod.
Then a fabulous pink flower.
Then I read about a Sun blogger's (where did you go, working mother?) pink VW.
Then my blog was ref'd by Tim Bray. That thrilled me.

This reminds me that on our recent vacation to see my family in Winthrop, Massachusetts, my family went crazy over this trick Greg taught me.

Georgia O'Keefe
So many people have admired this picture taken by my step daughter Sadie.
I thought I would post it here and just remark on her Georgia O'Keefe style.
Her brother Isaac has a Bierstadt style.
And big Daddy Tom has this one recent photo that he doctored with Photo Impressions that is postively Van Gogh.
It's nice to see Tom developing a photography style. Especially in portraits.
I can tell Tom took the picture. Actually, I think it is a mild distortion or possibly a lighting feature.
And it might even be my stigmatism becoming more acute. does that happen?
His people portraits are getting really nice - almost as nice as his bug portraits. Enjoy! Sadie O'Keefe
I just realized that Sudha likes this picture a lot and it's pink!

My mini iPod is pink
I so love my mini iPod.
I had it inscribed. It says 'Je m'appelle Christine et j'aime Tommy'.

Then Sudha ruined it for me by calling it a Barbie toy.
Probably because it's pink.
It's NOT a Barbie toy. It's a mini iPod. So what if it's pink?

I realize now she is just jealous.
I do so love my mini iPod.

Anyway another nice thing about my Sun Ray is the easy use keyboard audio controls.
Another nice thing about my new office is I can listen to music without having to
use my head phones. Yes, I tested it. My neighbors cannot hear. I mean my
music is not bothering my neigbors.

New office, new Sun Ray, new B1600 Blade
I just moved my office and lost my Sun Blade 150.
I wasn't sure what it would be like to be on a Sun Ray.
But I also got a Sun Fire[tm] B1600 Blade System Chassis for development work.
The B1600 is in a lab.
Here's what I like so far:
nice and quiet!
I really like the whole session thing - being able to swipe my badge/smart card in a co-worker's Sun Ray so we can work through a problem together or be on the same page. 'Hot Desking' is the term.
This configuration makes me more mobile and makes life easier for our Sys Admin - you know who you are - Gary!

Wouldn't you know it - I forgot my badge the 2nd day in my new digs.
I could still use the Sun Ray but lost the beauty of the saved session.
