Eight Reasons to Migrate to NetBeans 6.5

Hi all,
Today is 8.8.08, and many people around the world are celebrating. In Asia, for example, eight is a magical number. It's supposed to be the luckiest number there is. The 2008 Summer Olympics start today at 8:08 pm + 8 minutes and 8 seconds (8.8. 2008 at 20:08:08:08). People are rushing to buy lottery tickets, and in the U.S., 22,000 couples are scheduled to be married today. (It's also 8 days until my birthday. Although I won't be turning 88, I will be 45, and that is pretty close.)
NetBeans is also enjoying part of the "8" fortune. NetBeans 6.5 Beta is almost ready for release, and more and more users are choosing NetBeans as their IDE.
Also, the NetBeans Community Docs program has just reached another important milestone: 200 contributions.
In the spirit of the lucky number 8, I've decided to blog about the eight reasons to migrate to NetBeans 6.5. There are more, of course.
- PHP Support. Take advantage of syntactic and semantic code highlighting, code formating and folding, instant rename, code templates, and automatic code completion (including bracket completion) for PHP. The Editor recognizes PHP code including heredoc notation in PHP projects and in PHTML and PHP files.
- JavaScript Support. Take advantage of full syntax highlighting, code completion, and error checking for JavaScript. The Editor recognizes JavaScript code in stand-alone JavaScript files as well as in HTML, RHTML, and JSP files.
- MySQL Support. NetBeans and MySQL are now partners and closer than ever before.
- Great Database Features. Customize queries, add joins, specify criteria, preview results (and more) with the Visual Query Editor. Use the Database Explorer to make connections to database servers, view and change database schema, view the data in your tables and views, and execute arbitrary SQL statements against a database. The IDE supports drag-and-drop binding to data services and includes a Data Provider API for binding to other heterogeneous data sources. New database features in 6.5 include SQL History and Code Completion.
- A Strong Community. There is a great community around the IDE. And let's not forget the NetBeans Dream Team. And the Community Docs program. Support is there for you in many forms.
- Fantastic Documentation. Tutorials and Online are constantly being updated to provide you with the best possible user learning experience. New documentation is being added all the time.
- Support for Several Languages. Choose your flavo: Ruby, C, C++, Java, and many more. They're all there just waiting for you.
- NetBeans Is Your IDE. NetBeans is open source. You contribute to make it even better. NetBeans Rocks because of YOU!

I must say the PHP support is one thing thats made me sooo happy that I cannot tell :P
I've liked netbeans but most of the work that i do is in PHP and I hated eclipse for obvious reasons, thanks to the netbeans community I have a really good PHP IDE in my hands now!
And 8*8-(8+8+3) is quite close! ;)

The 1st, 2nd, and 7th reasons are irrelevant to Java/J2EE developers.
I personally do not like NetBeans because:
- The GUI is ugly. Both on Windows and on OSX.
- The editors are not responsive and as sophisticated as Eclipse and IDEA's editors

While i found NetBeans 6.5 M1 to be good, the related plugins are giving exceptions. Hence i went back to 6.1.
But overall NetBeans 6.1 onwards is really capable of forcing eclipse users to use NetBeans [though the responsiveness has to be improved a lot]
