Amit Kumar Saha, the NB Community Docs Contribution Coordinator, has made another great contribution to the NB Community Docs Program. Just go the NetBeans Community Docs wiki to check it out.

The article, Introducing NetBeans plug-in Development, shows you how to develop for a plug-in for NetBeans. Amit does a wonderful job providing you with the essential background you'll need and then guides you along as you create the plug-in.
