NetBeans Community Docs: The Home For Your Ideas

Hi all,

The word is out. The NetBeans Community Docs program has officially begun. Now, NetBeans Community members can submit their tutorials, white papers, FAQs, tips and tricks, Flash demos, and blogs to the Community Docs Wiki, where thousands of other community members can see them. It's all about the community helping the community, the way a successful community should be.

You may ask yourself how you can contribute. It's very easy. Here is how:

  1. Go to the Main NetBeans Wiki. Once there, follow the directions for creating a Wiki account. (Having an account lets you add more Wiki pages and edit existing ones.)
  2. Put you contribution in the correct format. If you are submitting a tutorial or white paper, create a Wiki reflecting the name of the contribution. Then put the contribution in Wiki format. (There are instructions for this on the page.) If you are submitting an FAQ or Tip or Trick, follow the link to each category from the Community Docs Wiki. Add the contribution by editing the Wiki page. If you are submitting a Flash demo, send an email to me, the Community Docs Manager, with the URL. My email address is on the Community Docs Wiki.
  3. Enter you contribution in the Community Docs Contributions Table and link to it. If you are still working on a contribution, enter the appropriate information in the Community Docs in Progress table.
  4. If you want to contribute, but don't know how, just choose a topic from the Community Docs Wish List. If none of these topics appeals to you, send me an email and I'll help you choose another.

There are also other ways in which you can contribute. You can help edit contributions made by other members, you can add suggestions to the Wish List, you can translate others' contributions, etc. Remember, it's your community. The more you can do to help, the better the community will become.

In the next few weeks, I'll be talking about some of the great contributions we've already received. Early next week, I'll introduce you to Sapankumar Parikh and talk about this member's contribution: The Component Creation at Runtime Tutorial.

See you then!
