Steelers: 34 Patriots: 20

I had been waiting in a state of heightened anticipation for several weeks for today's game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots. As a Steelers fan, I was particularly excited to see the Black and Gold have an opportunity to end the Pat's incredible streak of 21 straight wins.

Ending this streak is a feat that I fully expected the Steelers to achieve. I did not, however, expect that the feat would be achieved in such convincing fashion. New England has handed the Steelers a number of painful losses in recent history (the 2001 Playoffs come immediately to mind). It is somewhat sweet, therefore, to see the Steelers reciprocate and return a measure of that pain. It is particularly satisfying to me that the Steelers absolutely dominated the Pats on the ground, rushing for 220 yards while giving up only a single net rushing yard.

At the risk of engaging in a bit of optimistic prognostication, this game ensures that the Steelers would win the 'head-to-head' tie-breaker over the Patriots for home field advantage in the Playoffs.

The Importance of Being Informed

As we approach Election Day, I am hearing more and more rhetoric in the media about the importance of voter participation. I certainly do not dispute that voter participation is important. Indeed, I strongly believe that voting is a responsibility. That being said, I am disappointed that much of the 'get out the vote' rhetoric has marginalized or omitted any mention of the importance of an informed populace. Along with our responsibility to vote comes an equally important responsibility to become well-informed before casting our ballots. By all means, please urge your family, friends, and acquaintances to vote this year. But please urge as well that these folks study the issues before 'pulling the lever'.

Welcome

I have finally decided to take the plunge and join the ever-swelling ranks of bloggers. I have been journaling for years and blogging seems to me a logical 'next step'.

Why Journal?
There are many reasons why I journal. Some of the more compelling reasons are as follows:

  • Self-Reflection - Journaling for me is, first and foremost, a form of introspective writing. Through journaling, I become more aware of myself and my spiritual, intellectual, and emotional maturation.

  • Improved Understanding - Journaling allows me to elaborate and expand upon the things I experience. Moreover, journaling helps me to identify patterns in my thinking.

  • Stimulated Creativity

  • Self-Expression

Why Blog?
My decision to capture a portion of my journal as a blog is motivated primarily by a desire to share information in a variety of forms - facts, ideas, beliefs, etc. I am particularly interested in discovering the role blogging might play in the decentralized development of rich knowledge bases.

What to Expect?
I am a man of many passions and eclectic tastes. Consequently, readers of this blog should expect volume and variegation.
