Trivial Tidbits

The 11th General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), held in Paris, France in 1960, adopted a series of prefixes to form the names of the decimal multiples and submultiples of SI units ranging from 10E12 to 10E–12.

The 12th CGPM, held in 1964, added prefixes for 10E-15 (femto) and 10E-18 (atto). The prefixes for 10E15 (peta) and 10E18 (exa) were added 11 years later, in 1975, by the 15th CGPM.

The 19th CGPM, held in 1991, added prefixes for 10E-21 (zepto), 10E-24 (yocto), 10E21 (zetta), and 10E24 (yotta).
