The month of April, according to some, is named from the Latin word aperire, meaning "to open" (as do buds and flowers in the Spring).
April always begins on the same day of the week as July. In leap years, April also begins on the same day of the week as January.
According to the Modern Birthstone list provided by the Jewelers of America, the official birthstone of April is diamond.
