Trivial Tidbits
The month of January is named for Janus, the Roman god of gates and doorways. Janus is depicted with two faces - one looking forward and one looking back.
When Julius Caesar reformed the Roman calendar in 46 B.C., he added two days to the month of January, resulting in a total of 31 days.
According to the Modern Birthstone list provided by the Jewelers of America, the official birthstone of January is garnet.
