Tips Using SUA for Sun Grind Engine installation on Windows Systems

In order to make Windows systems as an execution host for Sun Grid Engine, you will need to install either SFU (Services for UNIX) or SUA (Subsystems for UNIX-based Applications) on your Windows systems.

For Windows Vista and Windows 2008 systems, you need to use SUA since SFU is not available on those system. You can download SUA from the following link:

When I'm first installing SUA on a Windows 2008 system, I found that, by default, installing SUA utilities and SDK packages doesn't include the GNU packages.  This is a common mistake described in the following link:

Note: A common pitfall is to just accept the default installation.  The default install does not include the GNU utilities and GNU SDK.  Interop Systems has prepared a Tech Note covering the installation of SUA, the utilities and SDK, and changing security settings to ensure Unix-like behavior.  See http://www.interopsystems.com/Download/Installing_SUA.pdf. 

If you did not install the GNU utilities and GNU SDK, any of SGE commands will fail with core dump without any further information. So don't accept the default installation and follow the instruction specified in the Installing_SUA document to add GNU utilities and GNU SDK.
