US Presidential Election & Social Media

Something very cool happened in the last couple weeks. When John Edwards announced his intentions to run for US President in the 2008 election, he invited blog celebrity Robert Scoble to join him as he toured four states.

Why? Well, as John says in an interview with Robert, you'll never change this country unless people decide they want change. He explains that it can't be changed from the top down, but through grassroots bottom up democracy.

Robert said it best in his blog when he said "Who’s in charge of this election? You are." The same You who was Time's 2006 person of the year -- the particpation age community member.

John Edwards knows a lot about poverty, after all, he’s helped throw a lot of people into it with: - his co-sponsorship of H-1b visas, - his support for illegal aliens, - his vote for MFN-China but what about stuff like iraq war and the patriot act? well, he voted for them too About the only thing you can say for Edwards is, he spent so much time running for president that he didnt have time to do more damage as senator You’ve got to ask yourself - ‘what did he do, with the power he had, when he had it?

Hello Anonymous. Did you hear about the Second Life forum for political discussions -- an idea that John Gage, the chief researcher at Sun Microsystems, came up with? Sounds interesting.

Yes the change has to start with us. The winner of the upcoming 2008 presidential race will not achieve anything without our support. We have to participate actively in the election and choose a leader who can guide us to the right direction.
