Better IM for Macs

Working as an engineer I have been using IM in various forms for years...even when my fellow developer was in the cube next to me to ask questions send code snippets etc....and today IM is even more important to me at Sun. Sun has really been a leader in moving to be a “Green Company”, a by product of that is many work from home engineers. I still work in the office but my team is very distributed....across the US...India..Europe..Russia...some in office..some at home....some at drop in centers....some at Starbucks... you get the picture.

I started using a Mac laptop several months ago for my day to day work machine and I really did not like the built in iChat client....I did not like the UI and the IM systems you could connect to was to limited.

Enter ADIUM...I downloaded and installed ADIUM and I simply love it. Here are the reasons I love ADIUM

1) Love the growl notification
2) Love the many IM systems you can connect to and the way they are aggregated (see screenshot below)
3) Love the tab approach to message windows (see screenshot below)
4) And finally I love the “Tokyo Subway” notification sound theme (I used to live in Tokyo...)
