Ning Does Facebook!
With the all the “cool” factor associated with Facebook and the growth of 1ooK new users per day, it is no surprise to me that Ning now rolls out a “Facebook” promotion feature....which is really just a Facebook app with some helpers to guide the novice forward to deploying the Ning - Facebook app....not a bad thing for Ning or Facebook...and just gives more steam (and validation ) to Facebooks approach to opening up the API for “app” development....Facebook really is the very cool app (from a technical perspective)....certainly evidence of the “second generation” of web 2.0 apps...I view Ning in its original incarnation as a first generation Web2.0 app.....it will be interesting to see how they morph and deal with with Facebook..and the “facebooks” to come...does this mean opening up the APIs....we are witnessing the birth of the new “software business model” of the future.....oh wait its here now ;-)

I went to pingdom(http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/?url=http://blogs.sun.com/cbeckham/entry/ning_does_facebook&treeview=0&column=objectID&order=1&type=0) to see how long it took to load this page : it took upwards of 5 seconds !
The picture is welcome (it wasn't there earlier) -- just convert it to something smaller (under 300 KB).
