Calum MackayCalum Mackay NFS version 4 (NFSv4) in Solaris 10 NFS Version 4 (NFSv4) will be the default version of NFS in Solaris 10 (available now for free download via SX - Solaris Express). NFSv4 is defined in Internet Standards Track RFC 3530, although the best place to start reading about it is in a paper by Pawlowski, Shepler et al. More details are available at NFSv4.org. I've been reading the white paper on NSFv4 and other docs at nsfv4.org. Pardon me for asking basic questions as I cannot find it on the web site.
Why should I migrate my NSFv3 to NSFv4?
- performance. How many % can we expect?
- security. What security issues did it address? What limitations are no longer applicable in v4?
- Internet. I guess we are referring to accessing file over Internet (VPN). What enhancements does v4 bring over v3 or competitor?
- Windows inter-operability. What problems does it solve?
How does NSFv4 compare with competitor products? The reason I'm asking is it's sometimes easier to appreciate something by comparison.
Many thanks in advance.
