USA map with 25 cents

A fun way to learn associating a state name to its geographic position inside United States of (North*) America is by collecting 25 cents coins that
represent each state and putting them on the map.
Here is a template I made in OpenOffice.

(
US-States-25cents.odg,
US-States-25cents.pdf)
* : United States of North America is perhaps more geopolitically correct name :-) United States of America is more appropriate when states in both the American continents become a union.

OpenWorld Icon theme

OpenWorld is an icon theme for GNOME or KDE, which aims to
follow
FreeDesktop icon theme spec.
OpenWorld-icons.tar.bz2 (0.5mb)
This icons collection was built gradually over couple of years. Icons were made for
various purposes: StarOffice presentations, illustrations,
design documents, OpenSolaris.org website, my blog etc.
Most of them were drawn while waiting in public places, like airports or bus stands or at home if dial-up connection goes down to trickling bytes. It is perhaps the most complete icon theme made on
Java Desktop System. I haven't tested it on other Gnome or KDE desktops.
In the
introduction about this collection I mentioned its design principle. It is done using SVG which is quite object oriented and one could easily reuse items from icon in another icon. Finally icons were rasterized to PNG using rsvg(1)
All icons are original and they do not intend to copy icons from any other operating system or icon theme. These are released under
CDDL open source license. Feel free to copy the ideas for other icon themes!

GDM and
GRUB themes.

SchilliX Nexenta and BeleniX

A wallpaper for the year end, summarizes the three OpenSolaris community distributions this year.
Schilli, the "knight in shining amour" and mascot of
SchilliX leads the
Nexenta Giraffe with Celtic Sun God Belenos of
BeleniX shining in the backdrop.
Isn't the OpenSolaris community a more cheerful, bright and sunny place?

Live Label for BeleniX LiveCD

As per Moinak "BeleniX" is from the Celtic (pronounced Kel-tik) Sun God Belenos.
(and it is not be prounnounced "Be Linux" :-) )

If Belenos was to appear in Asterix and Obelix comics, Gauls might call him Belenix.
Asterix and the Gauls have a special bond with the Solaris group in Bangalore IEC.
Many of the Ultra 10 desktops, that we started the center,
were named after one or the other comic character from the Asterix or newly invented
names ending with -ix.
So this
CD label for BeleniX [
download] shows a really excited and "live" Sun God Belenos, along with a Celtic knot-work border.
His nose coincides with the hole in CD,
it would be amusing to put a finger through that hole, making his missing nose come alive!
