24 Feb 2006 BeleniX 4.0 LiveCD with a lot more software bundled
Moinak has announced 0.4 release of BeleniX, an OpenSolaris LiveCD distribution with great improvements in boot-up speed. He has also packed about 1.5 Gig of software in a single CD image! It now opens up KDE on starting. OpenOffice and JDS are missing, hopefully these would in on the CD in upcoming releases. Boot took around 5 minutes on my Ferrari notebook.

Any idea why KDE isn't available as an option by default in S10? My Ultra 20 (at the office) came with S10 FCS which had the old boot loader, JDS 2 & SOffice 7 - all of which can make you feel like a dinosaur. After quite a fight, i upgraded it to update 15 with JDS 3 and installed KDE - which IMHO is more contemporary than Gnome.

KDE is on companion CD or can be downloaded from http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/freeware/ or blastwave .., I find GNOME to be faster and more usable than KDE.

Wish the BeleniX team would get the rights to redistribute StarOffice and Sun Studio! That would be really cool.
