28 Jun 2004 Simple correct vector icons
The promt in the terminal icon in Gnome looked so odd, that I wanted to replace it with something more close to reality i.e a real Solaris user shell prompt.
The tool sodipodi is quite good for drawing simple vector graphics. I have been using the terminal icon (without the $) as the icon for a host machine in my presentations. Since then I have made quite more icons, based on the same principles: (a)simplicity (b)outer thick lines, inner thin lines (c) no 3D effects as far as possible. There is so little that you can draw in a 48x48 space, you have to focus on the big object and forget the details. Here are some previews: (originals are in svg format)

There are more of these.. will try to make a Gnome svg icon theme out of them.

Update: see OpenWorld icon theme

Hey, want a job designing some High Contrast icons for GNOME? (The guidelines we use are pretty similar to yours, except they're black and white only...)
