15 Jun 2005 Spiders get to OpenSolaris
Now and then I was checking google to see if it had crawled to OpenSolaris source code, and would get disappointed.

Then checked the Yahoo and MSN search sites. Both have beaten the google spider in crawling up the OpenSolaris source code! May be it is time to change my default search engine in Firefox!

Alas, your test is not valid. I just tried typing the same search term into google, "namely cvs.opensolaris.org" and got the same message about not having any info on it. Howver, if you look at the error page, it has a line that says "find web pages that contain the term cvs.opensource.org" it finds many many links on cvs.opensolaris.org.

On the other hand, since it isn't all the files, it seem likely that these are files that someone else linked to and the google spider followed the links into the source. So, I guess you are right in that the spider hasn't started at the top and worked down.

I did click on those links(webpages containing term..) then, and they were empty too. May be I should conduct a test: put some unique string on my blog and poll the various search engines! (probably I shouldn't have disclosed my plans to do this test)
