Netbeans C/C++ Configuration - (repeat event for those who missed out)
Come along and learn about Netbeans IDE. I will be running a walk-thru seminar which will guide you through the installing of Netbeans IDE and configuration of C/C++ support for the windows platform and Mac.Participants are encouraged to bring along their laptop and follow along.

Netbeans is a programming platform for coding Java, C, C++, Ruby, PHP and much more.

I will be running a walk-thru seminar which will  guide you for installing Netbeans IDE and cygwin C/C++ tools for a windows platform PC.

This demonstration is primary aimed to allow students to replicate the same steps on their PC at home.

Netbeans and C/C++

Netbeans 6.5 supports an array of languages. It has built in out of the box features for java, web programming and other languages, however C/C++ is there but you need additional libraries.

After downloading Netbeans full or C/C++ edition, you then need to download and install some C/C++ libraries on to your system. Windows you would need Cygwin, Solaris  you would need Sun Studio, Mac and linux should have pre-installed libraries.

The latest and newest version of NetBeans has arrived, 6.5!

 Netbeans 6.5 has improved support for:

• PHP and Javascript
• Debugging for Firefox and Internet Explorer
• and most importantly for those who are already using Eclipse, it supports importing Eclipse projects
  

All this and the easy to use Matisse, Java GUI builder is included.

 Try Netbeans 6.5 Now. I have been using the beta version for 3 months, and I enjoy using it.

My next technical demo will be on held on Tuesday 14th of October. The topic will be on Open Solaris and the Zeta-byte File System (ZFS). There will also be a short demonstration of the Dtrace debugger.

My next Technical demo will be NetBeans IDE 6.1. It is a free multi-language, Integrated Development Environment. I will be giving a brief talk on the software, and also conduct a demonstration using one of its many languages to program.

For those of you who attended Software Freedom  Day on Friday, you would recalled that I said I would post up the details on how you can sign up for Free online learning provided by Sun.

Unfortunately I can not publish the codes on the blog as is. So please send me an email  and I'll send the details to you. Or if you can wait I will send out a follow up email to software freedom day detailing the codes.

Software freedom day was a great success! Despite the holidays looming on and that half of the university wasn't there on the day. The event attracted a total of 10 people who were engaged and very interested in Open Solaris and Virtual Box.

There was a Live demonstration on how to Install Open Solaris using the Live CD in Virtual Box. There was also a demonstration on how to install other Open Source operating system in virtual Box. We Tried to install Kubuntu in virtual box.

There was Free Food and heaps of giveaway.

Overall a very successful day.
