サン・フランシスコに来るのはもう何回目だろうか。 しかし、観光らしい観光をしたことはほとんどない。 いつも仕事ばかりでまともな食事を食べた記憶もあまりない。 今回も、仕事ばかりのはずで何もする余裕がなかったはずだが、 友人に拉致されて映画を見に行った。
今回、JavaOne に来た多くの日本人の方は今回、Star Wars を見にいったようだが(それはそれで見たくないと言えば嘘になる。 エピソードIの時はやはり JavaOne を抜け出して Metreon に見に行った記憶がある） 友人のお勧めだったのは、5 x 2 というフランス映画。
今年のSan Francisco Cinema Festivalで入賞した作品らしい。 あるカップルの付き合いを5つの断片的なストーリーで振り返っていくものである。
このカップルは最後は離婚するのだが、5つのストーリーは時代と逆の順番で並んでいるので 最後に観客が見せられるのは付き合い始めのエピソードになる。
バッドエンドを迎えたはずのカップルが、ハッピーエンドであるかのように見えるところが 不思議な感覚をかもし出す。
久しぶりにフランス語を聞いたのもよかった。ほとんど忘れかけている言語だが、英語と違う
ニュアンスが硬くなっている脳細胞をほぐしてくれるのを感じた。
JavaOne 会場から抜け出した代償は小さくなかったが、これはこれでよいリラックスにだった。

I'm glad you liked this movie. I saw it at the SF Film Festival earlier this year and I was blown away. Oddly, the reviews in American newspapers have been mixed.
I'd also like to point out that the songs that separate the five episodes in the movie are all Italian. It appears that they were chosen because their lyrics match the story, but since the lyrics were not subtitled, most viewers will have missed that point.
The song playing in the scene in which the characters in the movie dance after dinner is a very famous one, <em>Sparring Partner</em> by Paolo Conte (see his web site). Incidentally, that's my favorite scene in the whole movie.
