X-ray scanner

More "security" at Heathrow. Nice article in The Register about the X-Rra scanner trial in Terminal 4 of Heathrow. I wonder what the success criteria for the trial are? Like so much recently I get the feeling the decision has been made and that the trial is just a way of assessing the public reaction to being scanned, without concern for health and then manipulating the public's perception that something is being done. That, like ID cards, it won't actually make terrorists easier to catch does not seem to be the point but at least the Government can claim that they did something.

Perhaps the safety concerns are overstated, after all Superman did not ask before using his X-Ray vision.
