JavaFX 1.0 on Mac - Don't jump to conclusions

Although JavaFX 1.0 runs on the Mac, keep in mind that the browser plugin on this platform is not new, but rather is the same problematic plugin that has been around for years - it has repainting bugs, memory leaks, thread leaks, the security dialog handling is broken, it blocks the browser during application loading, etc.

These are the very problems that motivated the new browser plugin, mentioned in my previous post.

The new browser plugin is in the pipeline for delivery on Mac, and it's only a matter of time until you'll see it in an Apple software update. Until then, however, please reserve your final judgments.

There's no magic. Until the new software is installed on your system, it's not reasonable to expect corrections to the user-experience.

Is this what prevents the browser-to-desktop FX drag and drop from working on the Mac?

Overall though, FX seems really nice on the Mac.

Hi Chris,

Does this mean that Sun are now helping Apple more with their Java implementation? Will this mean that there's going to be less of a lag getting Java 7 (codename "Godot" ;-) on that platform?

Bah ... with Sun everything is the same crap. Why they did not first fix the Mac platform, The community asked since before to fix the Mac JRE because Apple is dropping support for it but Sun did not and now they are launching JavaFX but with the same crappy old plugging, WTF?. So it means JavaFX only works in Windows right now of course with many flaws and bugs but it doesn't work in Mac, Linux, BSD, Its WORA already broken with JavaFX?.

I'll say wait for JavaFX 2 and this plugin for the Mac get mature or get back into Flex now.

By the way I saw an article that Adobe is collaborating with SpringSource to bring better support of Flex to Spring, That is good news for Java developers, we need that and not waste more the time with damn Hypes or FADs.

suck...

everyone know how strictly apple controls its own platform. she is a company that can block a iphone application just bcuz she is planned to deliver a application with similar functionality.

The same case for Java, Apple refused to upgrade the java version to 6 for the old mac os x.

I'm not on the side of sun, but blaming sun for not fixing the mac platform is fundamentally a mistake.

I'm using JavaFX on my Mac in learning mode. For animations the language is brilliant and I'm grateful for all the contributions to the language.

I'm not bothered that some issues aren't solid yet, the basics are there. A little patience please folks.

Thanks for the update Chris! Sounds like Sun will address the grumblings written at http://blogs.sun.com/jag/entry/javafx_1_0_hits_fcs - a necessary thing.
