This week I took a taxi to Bratislava from Vienna and back again. With clear traffic it takes just over an hour each way and doesn't cost much - the way there was just over €100, the return journey €65.
For some reason, saying 'I'm taking a taxi to Bratislava' sounds incredibly glamourous. A good title for a film maybe?
As a Brit who's always been used to have to travel 'properly' to get to a different country (Wales and Scotland excluded of course, but they're different) the close proximity of so many European cities to eachother always comes as a pleasant surprise. One hour in the car and you're amongst people speaking a totally different language with their own distinct culture.
