Wednesday July 08, 2009 Must... drive... in... middle... lane...
There seems to be a major problem with the steering systems in many of Dubai's smaller cars, pick up trucks and vans.
When joining a 4, 5, 6 or wider motorway, the steering wheel appears to take on a life of its own, forcing the vehicle into the middle lane, where it will stay, pootling along at a random speed, blissfully ignorant of everyone else being forced to drive around it.
Are people here taught to drive in the middle lane, no matter what?
My drive to work now consists almost entirely of staying in the far right hand lane for most of the journey, undertaking everyone for most of the way. The alternative is to try and overtake on the left, as per the rules, but this would mean changing lanes every ten seconds.
Get to the right!
