Must... drive... in... middle... lane...
There seems to be a major problem with the steering systems in many of Dubai's smaller cars, pick up trucks and vans.
When joining a 4, 5, 6 or wider motorway, the steering wheel appears to take on a life of its own, forcing the vehicle into the middle lane, where it will stay, pootling along at a random speed, blissfully ignorant of everyone else being forced to drive around it.
Are people here taught to drive in the middle lane, no matter what?
My drive to work now consists almost entirely of staying in the far right hand lane for most of the journey, undertaking everyone for most of the way. The alternative is to try and overtake on the left, as per the rules, but this would mean changing lanes every ten seconds.
Get to the right!

Yes Chris, the general mindset and even chool driving instructoirs belive in so that the middle lane is the safest and best, so it is the general idea and chat that spreads all over and we end up being frustrated becaues of unsientific and non practical driving belives.
Driving attitude in Dubai needs a big change and it has to be done from top to bottom and to apply to all, it should be done by spreading words of the best attitude not by campaigns or implementing programes between driving schools and traffic departments or RTA less innovative long studied projects.
in short words" let it come from the good drivers on the streets themselves"

Chris, Chris, Chris - just buy a Hummer and drive in all the lanes at once. Just meander from left to right without a care in the world. Welcome to driving Kuwait City style.

Very true, Tory. Dubai driving is relatively a lot better than elsewhere. Having just come back from Beirut, I really shouldn't be complaining. At least Dubai has lane markings!

Recently saw one of the motorway digital info signs sign on the M4 (UK) that said "Don't hog the middle lane". It actually seemed to work for a few miles.
