Find an interview with a John McCain supporter in which the word 'maverick' does not appear.
Go on, try it.
Comments:
An excellent point. Try finding one with "McCain" and "defender of freedom". Doesn't exist.

I haven't heard that phrase either. He must dodge it. Like a maverick.
Seriously, I can respect him for a lot of what he's done. Campaign finance reform and admitting that global warming exists were good things, and they annoyed a lot of the right people. He gets kudos for that.
But his people keep trying to convince the Republican base that he's on their side - saying that he'll pick uber-conservative justices and such - and then turn around and tell moderates to come vote for him because he's a 'maverick'.
I want him to either be a hard-core Bush republican or be honest and independent, because he really can't be both, and all this flip-flopping is kind of annoying.

Thanks!
To me, it just makes sense to draw parallels between the campaigns. I'm a uniter, not a divider.
