What does "bart" mean to you?
Friday Apr 07, 2006
Prior to this morning, the word bart might have triggered a picture of a short, yellow character with spiky hair from the Simpsons, or something to do with Bay Area transport.
In Solaris 10, and as an OS Ambassador I am shamed to admit I did not know about it, is a file attributes auditing tool of the same name. The simple description in the man page is
bart(1M) is a tool that performs a file-level check of the
software contents of a system.
I have found pkgchk to be useful on a number of escalations, even if you need to filter a bit of noise from the output.
If you ever think you might care about files getting changed and being able to find out that they got changed, then bart might be worth a look at the man page and playing with.
