Beautiful Code and a Chineese take away

Tuesday Oct 02, 2007

I bought a copy of Beautiful Code while waiting for a Chineese take away in Sunneyvale on sunday night. I claim I was mentally weaker than usual due to jet lag, but it was on my "to read" list anyway. The format is that 20+ authors have written a chapter each, hence the areas covered are very diverse and short, but each one demonstrates a coding solution which the authors consider to be beautiful in some dimension. I have only read a few chapters so far and its not an easy read, but if you are a student of building reliable computer based systems, it needs to be on your list.

By a strange coincidence I was browsing this book at Borders the other day. I'd forgotten my wallet so I didn't have the opportunity to buy it. Anyhow since I was waiting for the missus I read the first chapter and also noticed that there was a section by some bloke called Bryan Cantril. Anyhow I think I'll get it next time I'm out. I hope you're having a good time in Vegas. I'm quite jealous of you guys out there living it up in Casino's and what not. I was toying with the idea of flying out and hanging out with you lot since I am living in North Carolina now - but I didn't think I'd be able to keep with the pace! Err, I think this has gone beyond a simple blog comment so I'll say cherio.
