Tiree
Wednesday Sep 03, 2008
I spent the last week on the Island of Tiree building sand castle in a wide range of weathers.
I also decided it was time to take a surf lesson and the instructor, Suds, turned out to be a bit of a disapointment. He was a really good instructor, but no dread locks. How can he expect to be respected as a surf instructor with short hair and no VW camper van?
Tiree is a water sports mecca if you don't mind feeling cold when you 1st get in the water. Kit hire and instruction were great, you just turn up, drink tea for a bit, get changed, wonder down to the sea, surf, and return the board when you have no energy left. All very layed back. I do need some more practice, but am now able to stand on the board on a wave.
There is not a huge number of non-water based activities on Tiree, which is one of its attractions and really helps the chill out process. The beaches are stunning, miles long and a crowd is defined at more than 2 families on the same beach. Probably the most relaxing holiday I have been on. Weather could have been much better, but what do you expect on a island on the west coast of Scotland!
