Its the Hindu new year for folks in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra states in India today and a holiday here at the Sun India engineering center, Bangalore. The Tamil new year is celebrated on April 14th. People eat a small quantity of neem (which is bitter) and jaggery to signify pain and joy to be accepted together in life. There are a lot of tradional food items eaten on this day. I have heard of a fabulous restaurant called "Halli Mane" (means Village House in Kannada), located at 3rd cross Sampige road Malleshwaram Bangalore, which offers healthy traditional Karnataka food.
